Shout Out for June.2006: Instant Coffee This month's Shout Out is long overdue to Instant Coffee, a Canadian Artist Collective who not only provide bitchin' email lists for a number of Canadian cities, but who also organize cutting-edge art shows and happenings. Their devotion to art and witty subject lines have captured our hearts. Perhaps the best way to describe Instant Coffee is to quote from their FAQ. (Start Quote) What is Instant Coffee anyway? Instant Coffee is a service oriented artist collective that initiates and facilitates the creation and execution of artists' projects. What does Instant Coffee do? sometimes we put shows together. I've heard that an IC show is really just a happening with art around - is that true? Capital 'A' Art is the key, we just like it to culminate in an event. But sometimes the party takes over. What are the Instant Coffee mailing lists? There's a lot going on; lots of openings, lots of showings, lots and lots to do art-wise. IC simply compiles a list of these and emails them to you, so you know what's going on. Also, for those ambitious art stars, we list calls for submissions from anywhere and everywhere. How do I join a mailing list? For the local Toronto list email us (put SUBSCRIBE in the subject) at events@instantcoffee.org. For the Halifax and Vancouver lists, email halifax@instantcoffee.org or vancouver@instantcoffee.org respectively. We also have the alberta@instantcoffee.org list, serving Banff, Calgary and Edmonton and Saskatchewan. Finally there's the international list at national@instantcoffee.org generally reserved for calls for submissions and other far-ranging things we're interested in. Does Instant Coffee have any ultimate goals? Investment in immediate gratification to think about the future. +++ Instant Coffee: Get social or get lost. (End Quote) | ||
